Ibiza or Eivissa in
the local Catalan dialect is a small island measuring 28 miles tall by
16 miles wide. Ibiza lies approximately 56 miles east of the coast of
Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a member of the Balearic Islands
along with Formentera to the south and Mallorca and Menorca to the the
north. Additionally Ibiza and Formentera are sometimes referred to as
the Islas Pitiusas or Pine Islands for their abundance of pine trees.
The year round population is approx 100,000 though this can more
than triple during the summer months at the peak of tourist season.
